Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we are asked most often about online dental infection treatment, eligibility, prescribing rules and delivery.
What is Emergency Dental RX?
Emergency Dental RX is a UK-regulated online pharmacy service that provides interim antibiotic treatment for dental infections. You complete an online consultation, a prescriber reviews it, and approved treatment is dispatched discreetly to your UK address.
Is antibiotic treatment a substitute for seeing a dentist?
No. Antibiotics only provide interim relief while you arrange definitive dental care. A dental infection is not cured by antibiotics alone — you must still see a dentist for treatment of the underlying cause.
Who can use the service?
The service is available to UK residents aged 18 and over with a UK delivery address. We cannot treat patients outside the United Kingdom.
Which medication will I be prescribed?
Amoxicillin 500mg is the usual first-line treatment. If you have a penicillin allergy, Metronidazole 400mg is offered instead. The final decision always rests with the reviewing prescriber.
How much does it cost?
Treatment costs £34.99, which includes the online consultation, prescriber review, medication and tracked UK delivery.
How often can I request treatment?
For patient safety and antimicrobial stewardship, we supply a maximum of one course every 6 months, and no more than two courses in any 12-month period.
Why do I need to upload photo ID and a selfie?
Identity verification is a legal requirement for prescribing medicines online. You upload a government-issued photo ID and a live selfie in your patient portal so we can confirm you are the person named on the prescription.
How quickly is my order delivered?
Approved consultations are usually dispatched the same working day when reviewed before 3pm, and arrive next working day with Royal Mail Tracked 24 or DPD Express.
What happens if my consultation is rejected?
If our prescriber decides treatment is not clinically appropriate, you are not charged for medication and will be advised on the safest next steps, such as contacting an emergency dentist or NHS 111.
Is my medical information kept private?
Yes. Your consultation answers, photographs and identity documents are stored securely, encrypted, and only accessible to the clinical team reviewing your case.
